Abstract
AOE-121921-EX-J is a safe.
Anomalous Properties
AOE-121921-EX-J is constructed of anomalous materials, including a locking mechanism that does not comport to Euclidean or three-dimensional space. Its composition is a carbon based crystalline structure similar to graphite, but whose durability surpasses that of diamond by nearly a factor of two (Vickers hardness of 480 Gpa). Given the anomalous construction and complexity of the locking mechanism, it was initially assumed to be constructed by an alien intelligence.
History
AOE-121921-EX-J was held at Site-283 for decades by its initial containment organization, before it was stolen and kept in private custody for centuries after. The initial organization kept it under strict lockdown and attempted testing on it weekly for years in hopes of revealing its contents. Cryptographers were utilized to unlock the safe, with no success. Radiographic analysis was inconclusive.
AOE-121921-EX-J developed a reputation for being un-openable. It was eventually placed in long-term storage and not actively researched or maintained. Interest in the object was occasionally renewed as new cryptographic methods were developed. It was then stolen, likely by an organizational insider who enacted a containment breach that cost the lives of 21 institutional personnel. The institution laid blame on a rival organization that had a reputation of thievery. The two engaged in warfare, with motives and goals outside the re-containment of AOE-121921-EX-J. The campaign ultimately resulted in the destruction of the rival organization, and put the initial containment institution heavily into debt. It became insolvent and was liquidated, with many anomalous objects and technologies transferred to the possession of arms suppliers and crime organizations. The emergence of anomalous weaponry among previously veil-captured nations and armies soon thereafter is not taken as a coincidence by modern-day historians.
After it was stolen and its whereabouts became unknown, AOE-121921-EX-J developed a mythical status, with many high-profile academics, archaeologists, and excavators speculating on its contents; anything from advanced weaponry, a (Kardashev) Type III energy source, and even the largest remaining store of Bitcoin in the universe. Others wondered if there was nothing in it, or if its contents had already been plundered.
AOE-121921-EX-J was finally unlocked this week, August 23, 2923 — 504 years after its initial procurement and containment. It was donated to the Society by an heir, whose family had been torn apart by the intrigue and allure of AOE-121921-EX-J; the family suffering divorces, familial collapse, and even murders. The donor submitted a pedigree that demonstrated its sequence of holders since its initial theft. It had reportedly not been opened in that time.
The key to AOE-121921-EX-J had not been available to personnel prior, as it utilizes non-Euclidean micro-topologies in its locking mechanism that had not been fully explained or mastered by even institutional understanding.
Upon opening the safe, a manufacturer’s imprint was discovered. This confirmed that the producer was an advanced intelligence; not alien, but human. A date of manufacture places the object several centuries into the future. The object features a serial plate stating that it belongs to an individual, [NAME REDACTED], who apparently has not yet been born, but who is presumed to have utilized advanced spatio-temporal displacement to increase security and minimize the likelihood of robbery by storing the safe and its contents well within the past. Retrieval capabilities on the owner’s part are likely, however the mechanism of this has not been witnessed and is not understood.
AOE-121921-EX-J is occupied by 42 dildos of varying color, shape and size. The contents have been left alone and the locking mechanism re-secured.
